Designer thought to be responsible for Kate Middleton's dress seen running into Goring hotel

Sarah Burton, a prot?g?e of designer Alexander McQueen, is believed to be the woman seen dashing into the Goring Hotel in central London at 3pm yesterday ? her face covered in a furry hood.

The woman was certainly doing her best not to be seen.

Sarah, the creative director of the Alexander McQueen label, has long been tipped as a front runner for the plum job of designing Kate's wedding dress.

Like the woman who arrived at the central London hotel three hours before Kate, designer Sarah has a slender build and fair skin.

She also owns an identical silver-studded belt and her recent designs include a series of coats with oversized fur hoods.

An eyewitness said: "She ducked right down and ran in as quick as you like. The whole thing was over in under half a second. It was very odd."

Kate, 29, has been determined to keep her designer and details about her dress a secret.

She wants it to be first seen in public as she steps out from her Rolls-Royce outside Westminster Abbey at 11am today.

Cheshire-born designer Sarah was an assistant to McQueen, who died last year aged 40, for 14 years.

She is known for her dramatic tailoring and clinging fabrics.

Kate is thought to have chosen the designer after being impressed by a ?10,000 silk strapless wedding gown worn by her friend Sara Buys, at her wedding to the Duchess of Cornwall's son Tom Parker Bowles.

Sarah has also created dresses for Naomi Campbell, Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Alexander McQueen label has failed to respond to inquiries about whether Sarah is the designer.

St James's Palace declined to comment.
